Protesters with Occupy SF took over a Bank of America branch today. A little after 2 p.m., an estimated 100 or so protesters "rushed into the branch on California Street near Davis Street, taking it over" while chanting, "We are the 99 percent." The bank branch flash mob scene, if you will, stemmed from today's Occupy SF march.
According to BCN (via SF Appeal), "the 'ReFund Public Education March' was organized in part to protest the cancellation of the UC Board of Regents meeting in San Francisco this week."
Protesters also sat down in traffic at Battery and Pacific, effectively blocking traffic.
No arrests have been made so far.
Traffic in the FiDi is a nightmare, obviously. Please avoid the melee if you can help it.
As of 3:30, the march has moved to Market Street, shutting down the uptown lane. Around 150-200 members are now heading to City Hall, chanting "We defend Occupy SF." They are also claiming, via call and response, that police stole 15 tents in this morning's raid on Market Street.
4 p.m. Update: Here's a few images of the marchers hitting the vicinity of Market and Jones, courtesy of SFist Jay. You can even play Where's Waldo with Frank Chu!
5 p.m. Update: Helicopters still circling Civic Center. It seems Mayor Ed Lee went around with a handout for reporters today (where's ours!? Oh right, we're barely reporters) stating the City's demands of the Occupy SF camp if they are to stay put. As Chuck Nevius informs us, Lee wants to see changes "today," and wants the camp size to go from 198 to 100 tents immediately. That ain't gonna happen.
