The food bloggers are lamenting the sudden loss of a savory (and well-blogged) Ferry Building mainstay today. News broke earlier that William Werner of Tell Tale Preserve Company, purveyors of the delightful sausage-egg-muffin mashup known as the Rebel Within, will be closing the pastry shop and delivery service after this weekend.
Werner tells Grubstreet that the sudden closing comes after his relationship with investors fell apart, meaning a planned second location on Maiden Lane definitely won't be happening.
With some time spent at Quince and plenty of good press coming off of Tell Tale, Werner's got a strong resume so we're sure the muffin monger will land on his feet. But if you haven't had a chance to experience the breakfast masterpiece you'll want to get to the Ferry Building extra early this weekend. Saturday will be your last chance to grab one until Werner's next project pops up. Speaking of which: if you've got deep pockets and a love of baked goods, Chef Werner is on the hunt for new investors.
