Tenderloin / Baseball Bat Assault: A 72-year-old man was attacked by a man in his 20s with a baseball bat around 1:25 a.m. this morning for no apparent reason. The attacker stole nothing from the victim, who was standing on the corner of Ellis and Taylor, and fled on foot. [Examiner]
Oakland / Shootings: A 22-year-old man was shot while standing outside a home on the 2200 block of 12th Avenue at 1:37 a.m. last night, during what was apparently a child's birthday party he was attending (at 1:30 in the morning!?). He is said to be in critical condition. In another part of town, on Spencer Street, two children were injured and two adults wounded when someone shot at them around 9:40 p.m. last night. The children were hit by ricocheting bullet fragments only, which did not break skin. [Tribune]
Santa Cruz / Drug Bust: Police arrived with a search warrant Thursday at Gondez Tires and Wheels in Santa Cruz, and they proceeded to find 35 grams of cocaine, 21 grams of meth, and 9 grams of heroin. One of the employees, an illegal alien living under an alias, had previously been deported after a 1999 pot bust in L.A. [ABC]
Half Moon Bay / Shooting: The quiet seaside town of Half Moon Bay played host to a shooting last evening around 5 p.m. The suspect, a Hispanic male on a green bicycle, shot at a group of young men, and the motive is thought to be gang-related.
