At some point Thursday morning, pregnant 32-year-old Darla Norpa of Pacifica was mauled to death by her 2-year-old pit bull. Her husband, Greg, returned home around noon to discover his wife "laying in the front yard" with their two dogs standing over his dead wife. The incident occurred on the 500 block of Reina Del Mar Avenue. Officers arrived around 12:15, declaring the woman dead at the scene.
"The pit bull had been secured in the backyard of the residence while police were investigating the death," reports the Examiner. "While personnel were tending to the victim, the dog escaped from the backyard and approached first responders on scene, according to police. Officers then shot the dog three times, killing it."
The other pooch, who had nothing to do with Darla's death, was "removed as a precaution by the Peninsula Humane Society."
This comes on the heels of several other notorious dog-mauled-to-death cases over the years, most notably Diane Whipple, a lacrosse coach at St. Mary's College who was 'killed in her Pacific Heights apartment building by a 120-pound Presa Canario." In that case, however, Marjorie Knoller stood by and did nothing as her dog brutally killed Whipple.
