With a slew of debates and forums on the horizon, the candidates don't seem to be making quite as much time for for boozy meet-and-greets these days. But if you desperately need to bend there ear of your favorite (or not) candidate for office, there are a few events coming up this weekend where you'll be able to track down your man or woman for Room 200 and get a word in:
David Chiu: Chiu's campaign is rolling out this "Where's David?" initiative, which is your chance to tell the Board president where he should show his face next. It's fun! It's interactive! It's campaigning 2.0!
Currently on the Chiu Crew schedule: Bartending at the Lush Lounge on Polk Street tomorrow Thursday, August 12th from 9:30 - 10:30 p.m. (We assume the "a.m." on the listing is a typo, otherwise the dude really is a lush.) Also: a happy hour at The Brickyard sports bar in the Marina next Wednesday the 17th starting at 6 p.m. We should point out that one cast $25 a head, which doesn't seem like a very good happy hour deal to us.
Joanna Rees: Continues her coffeeshop tour with stops at Reverie Coffee Cafe in Cole Valley on Monday and the exciting-sounding Crocker Amazon Multi-purpose room next Saturday, August 20th. If those don't get you revved up for Jojo, wait until she drops in to Twin Peaks Tavern in the Castro on Monday the 22nd.
Everybody, maybe: Two big street festivals (that aren't Outside Lands) happening this weekend: the Pistahan Parade at Yerba Buena Gardens will be celebrating Filipino American culture on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. It's safe to say the big names will be in attendance, hopefully someone will enter the Balut Eating Contest.
Also this weekend: Sunday Streets in Civic Center/Tenderloin from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Again - not a boozy event, really, but we wouldn't be surprised to see bike-friendly candidates John Avalos and David Chiu scooting around making friends with the bikefolk. Added bonus: Jane Kim will be there, trying to ride her new two wheeler from SoMa's Public Bikes without the training wheels on.
