The Environmental Council, a joint effort between 30 bay area organizations who all want a say in the America's Cup environmental impact report, is set to protest in front of City Hall this morning. The protests, which take place at 10 a.m. and lead up to a Planning Commission hearing on the draft EIR at Noon, are meant to raise awareness of some of the shortcomings the council's groups see with the draft EIR.

The Council groups are concerned with things like a northern waterfront overrun with spectators, air and noise pollution, and threats to wildlife. Or as one representative from San Francisco Tomorrow put it, "Imagine having the Blue Angels and Fleet Week non-stop for nine weeks." (Most people just call that "summer in San Diego".)

One of the city's environmental planners also told Bay City News that the Planning Commission hearing is expected to draw big crowds and will run for "at least two hours".

If you're in the area and you see some clever anti-sailboat signs, please do send photos.
