Nat Ford might be out at Muni, but as Chronicle super sleuths Matier and Ross report this morning, the much-loathed golden parachutist could be in the running to fill a vacancy as BART's general manager. From the mustache blog:
According to those in the know, Ford was approached by a head hunter for the transit agency, which is looking around for a replacement for the forced-out Dorothy Dugger. And some BART board members definitely appear to be interested.
Granted, the former Muni boss would have a lot fewer lines to deal with on BART (5 instead of 82), but he never seemed very good at handling things on rails to begin with. (Case in point: the N-Judah light rail line needs to be supplemented with rush hour shuttle buses now.) There's also the chance that AC Transit could merge with BART in the near future, meaning the next BART GM could have even more to look after than whoever the MTA selects to take Ford's old gig at Muni.
Speaking of which, Matier and Ross have some words for that selection process as well. According to the boys, SF DPW Director Ed Reiskin is still the SFMTA's frontrunner, but if we're talking about experience with moving people around town, Reiskin's only got four years as a regional manager at Otis Elevator Company in New York under his belt.
Meanwhile, if you've got some input of your own, there's still time to weigh in on SFMTA's survey, which may or may not actually influence anyone's decision in the matter.
