MUSIC: Iranian born vocalist Shahrzad Sepanlou combines "the freedom of expression in jazz, with the deep emotional lyrics and melodies of Persian music" in her songs about her homeland and its struggle for freedom as well as songs about love and hope. THEATER: Continuing with the Iranian female artist theme, Maryam Farnaz Rostami uses narrative, devised movement, and drag in Persepolis, Texas, "the story of how a little girl born to Iranian parents and raised in the suburbs of Texas came to become a drag queen in San Francisco, California."
