The Examiner has word that a veteran prosecutor with the District Attorney’s Office was disciplined and had to apologize after imitating a MIddle Eastern character during a search procedure training session. An anonymous source told the Ex that Assistant District Attorney Jerry Coleman had to thrown down a heavy mea culpa in fornt of the entire office last week during a privarte meeting called by District Attorney George Gascón. Here's how it all started:

The sources said Coleman was leading a training session before about 100 prosecutors and police about search warrants and other Fourth Amendment issues, a hot topic in recent months given scrutiny over alleged illegal searches by an undercover SFPD unit during drug raids.

In an effort to contrast protections against illegal search and seizure in the U.S. with those in some Middle Eastern countries, where police routinely search homes with impunity, Coleman donned traditional garb worn by men in some Arab counties and attempted to imitate a Middle Eastern accent, according to sources present at the session.

The prosecutor's attempt at livening up the training session was blasted by critics as "a misguided attempt at humor" and "incredibly dumb."

Misguided? Dumb? We can only guess Coleman performed a poor parody of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, the Hindu Kwik-E-Mart clerk from India on The Simpsons. Isn't that the go-to for clueless fools trying to make fun of Middle Easterners? Again, that's just our guess! And where did Coleman get traditional garb? One must admire his dedication to a bit. We digress.

Coleman has not been fired.
