The power of Bauer: It is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes. The city's most noteworthy food critic unsheathed his annual spring revision of his top 100 list over the weekend, an event Grub Street describes as being "on par with the release of Michelin Guide updates around here." We've told you the new restaurants that made the list. Here are the restaurants the esteemed SF Chronicle critic pruned from the 2011 edition. Brace yourselves.

While Bauer's selection process is a difficult one -- he says that the dropped restaurants are "about as good as I remembered, but in the end it comes comes down to numbers — somebody has to go" -- we're certain that some few chefs and restaurant owners will feel a slight sting this week. Still, we're glad to see Bauer kept some aesthetically classic restaurants on the list -- e.g., Jardiniere, Gary Danko, Boulevard. Not every new food joint manned by guys sporting beards and SF Giants caps deserves Bauer's platinum ink.
