Over on the Chronicle's City Insider, Will Kane reports that Market Street could be getting it's own Hollywood-style Walk of Fame - albeit with that certain San Francisco flair. San Francisco's Rainbow Honor Walk, a series of sidewalk plaques honoring influential gays and lesbians, could eventually run along Market Street all the way from Octavia Boulevard to Castro Street and display hundreds of names. Currently, the first round of 20 names to be gilded in to the sidewalks of Upper Market, selected by a committee of Castro residents and business owners, includes: Allen Ginsberg, Frida Kahlo, Oscar Wilde and Sylvester James - "a noted disco star."

Surprisingly (or maybe not), missing from the list was Mayor of the Castro Harvey Milk, because according to one of the project's co-chairs, the committee wanted to "show our culture is much more than that." Fair enough. The Civic Arts Commission is expected to approve the project in the next few months and the first round of plaques could be underfoot for you to stand over while having your picture taken before the end of the year.
