Forget brotherhood, unspoken truths and nepotism — the SF police department has arrested one of its own.

As SF Weekly’s the Snitch points out, “It isn't often that you read about a police
officer breaking the law -- and getting busted.” Certainly the last part rings true.

On Wednesday night the SFPD arrested Officer Gregory Hui, 45, after a monthlong
investigation into his unseemly actions. Turns out, Officer Hui allegedly stole a
registration sticker from a car
he pulled over while in uniform in the Richmond
District, then affixed the sticker to his own vehicle which had expired tags. That’s
one way to avoid the DMV. The nearly 10-year veteran officer may face jail time if
he’s convicted of fraud and stealing while in uniform.

He’ll be arraigned today or tomorrow on two felony charges for fraudulent use of
vehicle registration and on a misdemeanor charge of embezzlement. If he is guilty,
kudos to the SFPD for following up, but it’s not like he was skimming cocaine off the
top of evidence piles.
