Saturday, January 22, marks the 38th anniversary of Roe. v. Wade, which established a woman's right to have an abortion. On that day, both sides of the argument will come together, if you will, in San Francisco to duke it out. Verbally, that is.
"The anti-choice, anti-gay Walk for Life organization will bus people into the city of San Francisco for a march in support of criminalizing abortions," declares Indybay. "Pro-Choice activists will counter them with a rally and march along the city's waterfront." Which, yes. The pro-lifers at the annual rally tend to be (needlessly) anti-gay and (far more disturbing) anti-gay adoption. Not all of them, of course. But many.
Unabashedly pro-life publication Modesto Bee weeps: "In 2006, the most recent year reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of pregnancies that ended in induced terminations nationally was about 24 percent of the total. In New York City last year, the city's health department recently reported its abortion rate was 41 percent."
Bee's Sue Nowicki then talks to several pro-lifers (i.e., the "Valley faithful") who plan on making the trek, who describe the annual Walk For Life as a "loving type of endeavor."
Also, if abortion makes you frown, check out these precious feet. Only $10! So cute! And, if you cannot stand the pro-life movement, this t-shirt might make the perfect counter-protest attire. Make a statement without saying a word!
The fun starts at 11 a.m. at Justin Herman Plaza.
