Yesterday afternoon police officers responding to a call from a teenage girl reporting that she had been stabbed arrived at the 600 block of Bacon Street in Portola where they found a house party "involving a large number of young people." According to KTVU, cops found the suspect inside the home holding "some type of weapon, possibly a knife." The suspect came at the officers after they asked him to put down the mystery weapon, at which point officers opened fire and inflicted the life threatening injuries that landed him at SF General. The suspect died shortly after arrival.

The 15-year-old girl who called in the stabbing was treated for minor injuries on the scene and SFPD brought in the Mobile Command Unit to question as many of the partygoers as possible. According to Lt. Troy Dangerfield, officers weren't sure how many shots were fired, but witnesses nearby claim they heard two gunshots. The party house sounds like a bit of a troublemaker in the neighborhood - neighbors told KTVU that police have showed up there in the past to respond to complaints about loud music. Also, who knew San Francisco had a Bacon Street?

UPDATE: The Examiner has cleared up some of the sketchier details: According to police, the shooting victim has a history of mental illness and reacted "violently" to all those kids making noise in his home. We know now the weapon was a scalpel, but it's still unclear why 46-year-old Vinh Bui would let all these kids party in his house if he didn't like them making noise. Police Chief Gascón is saying the officers acted lawfully, based on a preliminary briefing. [SFExaminer]
