The Chronicle ran the "Serious Willie in a Trench Coat" photo alongside Willie's Sunday Column this week. You might think that was because of all the rain last weekend, but you'd be wrong. It's actually more of an undercover, private investigator look to go along with the very swanky and very top-secret 90th Birthday Party for former Secretary of State George Shultz that Willie attended at "one of the city's premier men's clubs*" which he was asked not to mention by name. He does mention that it's on Taylor Street, however, so he might has well have just told us since it only took all of two seconds to google "taylor street men's club" and arrive at the notorious Bohemian Club. But we could be wrong, maybe it was held in the gym at the Olympic Club around the corner like a junior prom.
Anyhow, the guest list consisted of "250 of the most powerful people [he'd] seen gathered in one place in quite some time." Condoleeza Rice was there, as was Donald Rumsfeld and former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, who we thought was dead for some reason. Charlie Rose, also not dead, went around the room and asked everyone to tell their favorite George Shultz story. We learned that Shultz "has a tattoo of a tiger on his butt."
