Cooler Heads Prevail: Singer Waiter Approved in North Beach

Because certainly you were waiting on the edge of your seat to see how this one turned out: a meeting of the Planning Commission last Thursday approved Colosseo's amplified sound permit. None of the Telegraph Hill Dwellers spoke up at the meeting, so Luca the Opera Singing waiter will begin serving up sides of Puccini before Christmas. As the President of the North Beach Chamber of Commerce put it:

"To tell an Italian he cannot have opera, let alone amplified music to go with it, is like telling him he cannot eat pasta. It's a sacrilege."

It should also be noted that Planning Commission president Ron Miguel did make one concession - he adjusted the permit to limit the sound system to a single microphone, thus preventing any unnecessary duets. [CBS Local]
