Supervisor David Chiu has a better idea about how to stop the rash of violence that has hit local nightclubs. Rather than tracking unruly patrons, Chiu has proposed an ordinance that would make the Entertainment Commission responsible for maintaining a database of party promoters and their recent events. Venue owners would naturally have access to the database and the ability to call up their peers to ask how sketchy a promoter's previous event turned out to be. Simple, right? Lightyears ahead of the current word-of-mouth non-system.
Acting Exec Director of the Entertainment Commission Jocelyn Kane is a little wary that her three-person office will have trouble maintaining the database with 400 venues in the city, but she's otherwise on board with the ordinance. [Chron]
