Ban Watch 2010: Male Circumcision Proposed for the Chopping Block

After the Board of Supervisors' final vote to ban Happy Meals there was some speculation about what the city would ban next. All jokes about banning non-fair-trade coffee (or whatever) aside, San Franciscan Lloyd Schofield has proposed legislation that would "make it a misdemeanor to circumcise, excise, cut or mutilate the foreskin, testicle or penis of another person who has not attained the age of 18.” After that, of course, one is free to modify one's own body as one see's fit. The Examiner notes that Schofield has brought up the issue before, most notably at this year's Folsom Street Fair. Assuming Schofield can get the required 7,168 signatures by next April, we'll be seeing the measure on the November 2011 ballot, just below the candidates for Mayor. Curious to see how the Mohel's Union reacts to this one.
