A 28-year-old Fairfield woman stabbed her twin three-year-old girls to death last night and then attempted both to kill herself and set fire to her apartment. Firefighters discovered the gruesome scene, with the woman having self-inflicted but non-life-threatening stab wounds, after responding to reports about a fire alarm going off in the unit.

The Chron reports that the fire was contained to the family's apartment. The woman, now suspected of murder, is being treated for her wounds at John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
