Contraband Coffee, which was set to open in Nob HIll at Larkin and California in the former John Barleycorn space in July, has experienced some speed bumps with regard to their permitting.
John Barleycorn, if you recall, was shuttered by the maligned Luisa Hanson, who bought the building back in 2007, much to the ire of loyal Barleycorn patrons. Hanson has since gone bankrupt, and the banks are now handling her estate.
Contraband hopes to open some time this month, but judging from the latest sign in their window next to a permit for outdoor seating, they've been experiencing much grief.
Contraband Coffee is NOT associated with Louisa [sic] Hanson! Her name is on the building for the moment & must be on this permit application. Thank you for understanding.
Godspeed, Contraband!
