Tipsters alerted us to a three-alarm fire that occurred in Caledonia Alley, near 17th and Valencia, tonight at around 6 p.m. According to Emergency in SF, at least one hundred firefighters responded to the fire due to its complexity. The fire was under control by 8 p.m., and there were several injuries sustained by firefighters and residents. Red Cross was on the scene.
At least twenty residents have had to stay with family and friends, except for a family of four and their pet, who were looking for a vacant hotel room south of the city due to Outside Lands concertgoers filling up all of the local hotels.
Mission Local commenters had additional eye-witness information about the fire, saying that firefighters arrived within a couple of minutes of the alarm being sounded, that hoses were strewn through Weston Ware to reach the alley from Valencia Street, and that a firefighter kindly saved a family's goldfish.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
