After California's gay marriage ban was overturned last week, U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker said he would make a decision today whether or not marriages could resume. If Walker chooses to lift the stay, that means marriage could start as soon as noon.
As SF Appeal reports, SF City Hall is ready to start marrying couples, "and SF's Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting has said 'We're absolutely ready. We can't wait for Judge Walker to lift his stay. We're working with the County Clerk's office. If they stay is lifted we are prepared to stay open until 8 tonight and stay open Saturday and Sunday from 9-to-5.'"
Now, if the stay is lifted and marriages can resume, it will be a short period before, presumably, it's closed again by the 9th Circuit. Walker's decision is expected by noon.
In related news, even Glen Beck doesn't think gay marriage is a threat to the fiber of America. And, dear God, we have to agree with him.
Update 10:04: Gavin Newsom has appeared outside City Hall. Also al ine has already formed inside City Hall, waiting for the permits. No lag time is expected if Judge Walker lifts the temporary stay.
