The much anticipated gourmet grilled cheese outfit, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, is rumored to be opening their doors tomorrow for lunch. They'll begin serving breakfast and dinner at some point in June.
Co-owner Heidi Gibson, seven-time Grilled Cheese Invitational winner, obviously has the sandwich down to a science. As she explained to SF Weekly, "I like to think of the power of three. In the recipe there are usually three dominant flavors: two complementary and one contrasting. And it usually takes four or five rounds to get to the sandwich I want."
The menu currently has seven sandwiches, which include The Mousetrap with sharp cheddar, havarti, and jack on Pinkie's Bakery levain, the Jalapeño Popper with bacon and apricot-jalapeño relish, and the Piglet -- ham and cheese with apple mustard and rosemary butter. According to Eater SF The Mousetrap will be a menu fixture, along with their signature tomato soup touched with pimenton and Basque pepper.
The restaurant appears to have ample outdoor seating -- perfect for the long, Memorial Day weekend, which isn't supposed to be rainy. Check them out on Facebook or Twitter for updates.
