Oakland City Attorney John Russo is seeking a court injunction against an unnamed North Oakland street gang that has "terrorized" the neighborhoods bordering Berkeley and Emeryville. As the Tribune reports, "The injunction is intended to prohibit gang members from conducting certain activities — such as associating with other gang members in public or carrying items that can be used for graffiti or vandalism — in a 100-block "safety zone." Such injunctions have caused controversy in the past, with an Oakland judge throwing one out in 1994 only to be overturned by the state Supreme Court. Has SF had any real success with these things?
