Today at noon, loads of pro-abortion (and, no, we will not call it "pro-choice," a sunshine-lollipop term that, ultimately, helps play a part in having abortion rights stripped away; if you can't even say it, why should your old white male leaders give a piss of concern about it?) folks will rally at City Hall to protest the Stupak-Pitts Amendment, which will allow "unprecedented restriction on women's access to abortion."
The Stupak-Pitts Amendment, you see, will prohibit the use of Federal funds "to pay for any abortion or to cover any part of the costs of any health plan that includes coverage of abortion" save in cases of rape, incest or danger to the life of the mom.
What's more, "individuals who would receive a government subsidy for health care under the plan -- any four-person family making $88,000 a year or less -- would also be prohibited from buying an insurance plan that covers abortions." Abortion, by the way, is a vital bit of medical care a reported "for one in three women." The dream of standing at the pearly gates an alleged place called heaven with the magical son of God holding an entry checklist, however, seems to trump this fact for many. (And if we're wrong? Er, just kidding, Jesus!)
Anyway, you should check out the rally at noon if you can make it. Today's speakers will include Belle Taylor-McGhee (President and CEO, Pacific Institute for Women’s Health), Dennis Herrera (San Francisco City Attorney), Dr. Norma Jo Waxman (University of California at San Francisco), Dr. Jen Kerns (University of California at San Francisco), Keely Monroe (Law Students for Reproductive Justice), Lupe Rodriguez (Program & Policy Director, ACCESS/Women's Health Rights Coalition), and Bevan Dufty (D8 San Francisco Supervisor).
