The folks at SFMOMA invite the public to participate in their weekly Sketch Fridays, which is geared toward facilitating an exchange between the community and the museum in the creation of "visual guestbooks." The group meets every Friday at 2 p.m., and guests of all levels are encouraged to attend, from children to professional artists.
SFMOMA is currently offering free admission to the first five people who respond to the weekly invites on SFMOMA's Facebook page each Friday, which are also announced via Twitter. The first ten participants each week will be provided with sketchbooks, which are reused each Friday. The new batch of sketches will be uploaded to SFMOMA's Flickr group (with permission from each artist, of course) each week. SFMOMA encourages the promotion of local artists and their websites via the Flickr group.
The group is currently working on sketches inspired by the current Richard Avedon show, which makes for some really great material. SFist attended last Friday's event and had a lot of fun. It wasn't as intimidating as we thought it would be. The strong contrast of Avedon's images are very conducive to being transformed into captivating sketches, as evidenced in the above gallery.
