Week Around the Ists

  • Gothamist greeted Election Day with excitement--and some really, really long lines. Even Tim Robbins had a meltdown at his polling site!
  • Bostonist discovered that it's hard out there for a singer when we met The Opera Guy, a classically trained busker, and Jess Tardy, an independent singer-songwriter whose work has appeared on television.
  • Seattlest thought that this video of Capitol Hill hipsters literally dancing in the streets -- to Journey, no less -- ought to go into an Election Night 2008 time capsule.
  • DCist was at the political epicenter on election night, snapping up some choice images of D.C. celebrating Obama's victory well into the morning.
  • Shanghaiist did a recap of what China bloggers said about the U.S. elections and Obama's win.
  • Austinist was out in full force covering this weekend's indie rock Fun Fun Fun Fest:
  • Chicagoist was all about hometown Senator President-Elect Obama this week, celebrating his election, attending the Obamapalooza rally, and taking lots and lots and lots and lots of pictures.
  • Torontoist profiled A City Renewal Project, a massive work done by local street artists Fauxreel and Specter that saw a warehouse converted into a fake city street, complete with storefronts, graffiti and tags, a billboard advertising Condos for Babies, and one stolen transit.
  • Londonist stayed up very late to watch the results of the US Presidential Election.
  • Phillyist was pretty election-obsessed, even if Pennsylvania didn't turn out to be the nail-biting showdown everyone worried it would be.
  • LAist reeled from the slim victory of the controversial Proposition 8, but watched the opposition take to the streets in protest at the Mormon Temple, in West Hollywood, Hollywood, Beverly Hills, and Long Beach.
  • SFist also witnessed California's jarring same-sex marriage ban pass, resulting in Bay Area folk angrily pointing fingers yet also coming together to constructively commiserate via two massive protests in San Francisco.
