Former California Governor Jerry Brown is cracking down on prescription-drug abusers. Specifically, those of you you who enjoy the sweet, opiate-y release of drugs like Valium, Vicodin, and Oxycontin. "In addition to costing the state millions each year," the Attorney General's office pouts, "prescription drug abuse can have serious public safety consequences, as many of the top abusers hold down regular jobs including truck drivers, transit operators,...medical practitioners," and bloggers. So, it seems, Brown is going to "aggressively pursus[e] the top prescription drug abusers" in Califiornia.

Via a program that started last June, the crackdown has since "led to the arrest of dozens of suspects," like Frankie Greer, 53, who went to over 183 doctors and 47 pharmacies to tame his drug habit. In just one year, Greer "sought out multiple doctors at hospital emergency rooms to prescribe her over 4,830 hydrocodone tablets, 2,210 oxycodone tablets, 156 Oxycotin, along with a variety of additional addictive painkillers."

Say what you will about drug users, they certainly are a tenacious lot.
