We been noticing a lot of these kinds of accidents lately, with a small SUV rolling over at what must be fairly low speeds. We happened upon this scene this afternoon at McAllister and Webster, seeing the tow truck driver almost done with his job of righting the Honda. We have no details, although it appears as if it was a very survivable accident.
This vehicle is typical of the newer style cute-utes in that it is basically a tall version of an economy car (the Civic). The big difference is ground clearance - you get a pretty good view of its tall-boy suspension here. Of course any vehicle can roll over, but this type of vehicle will flip in situations when a regular car would not. We'll grant that you're a lot better off than back in the old days of the original Suzuki Samurai (our dream car when we were 12), or the Ford Bronco II, with its (pretty much) crushable fiberglas roof. But if you ever find yourself in one of these SUVs, (yes you, maybe you're getting a lift or something) seat belts are your very good friends, even more so than in a typical car, and even if you aren't going 80 MPH on the freeway So let's be careful out there.
