We don't know what the protest will include, but we're guessing lots of chanting in rhymes, big-ass puppets, a few Free-Mumia signs and Frank Chu. Can't forget Frank Chu. Actually, some of the Board of Supervisors might speak as well as Barbara Lee. One person who will speak is Carolyn Ho, whose son is refusing to be deployed. As for celebrities, we can't see any mention of them and those that are going to do something appear to be headed for D.C. where Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon will give long speeches. Tomorrow night, however, Dennis "Leprechaun" Kucinich will speak at the First Unitarian Universalist Church on Franklin Street.
The parade is being sponsored by the usual suspects-- A.N.S.W.E.R, Code Pink, and Not in Our Name and the one in DC is getting sponsorship from more mainstream organizations as MoveOn.org and the National Organization of Women. We couldn't help but notice that the event organizer, Snehal Shingavi bills herself as a member of the International Socialist Organization. Good to see they're going mainstream.
The march will meet at 12 at Powell & Market and because no protest could happen in this city without it devolving into a thousand other causes, the march will go past Pier 31/33 to support IBU-ILWU/MMP workers who are on strike there.
