Sorry, we've become so obsessed with the upcoming Fake Question Time and those Yalie a capella singers that got beaten up that we totally didn't cover any of the other city news from today! So here you go:
While we were distracted with all the RSVP shenanigans for Saturday's event, we almost forgot to tell you that the Board of Supes once again overrode Gavin Newsom's second veto of Ross Mirkarimi's foot patrols with an 8-3 vote! Bad us. Your three voting against: Alioto-Pier (who was also the only vote against Question Time), Elsbernd, and new supervisor Ed Jew, who said he was voting against it because Heather Fong is his girl. This second part of Mirkarimi's legislation requires that at least two officers spend a full shift walking a beat, in all ten police stations. The first piece that was also passed over Newsom's veto only required foot patrols in 8/10 of the stations.
And in trademark litigation news -- 1) Cisco is suing Apple over the name "iPhone." Cisco claims to have owned that name since 2000, when it bought InfoGear Technology, and the Cisco iPhone was supposed to be a phone using VoIP, and 2) one of the founders of Burning Man has sued the other founders, to put the "Burning Man" trademarks back in the public domain.
