But no, that's not the fun part, the fun part is that Gilmore, one of the founders of the Electronic Frontier Foundation and a millionaire thanks to being in early at Sun Microsystems, is daring the Government to actually show the actual law that says IDs have to be checked. Why? Because those laws are super-duper secret. And in essence, all those courts are saying that it's fine by them that the government can pass laws without, you know, actually telling anyone what they are. And Gilmore-- a libertarian gadfly and noted beard wearer-- is calling everyone one out on it.
This whole thing started when Gilmore tried to board a flight from Oakland to Washington D.C. to try and do something about the law. But he wasn't allowed to board the plane because he refused to show them his ID. So he went all the way to SFO to board a plane but was told he couldn't board that plane either without the proper ID. Or, he could if he went through an extensive search (body cavity search, perhaps?). And so he refused that. Thus the lawsuit.
