San Francisco school board president Norman Yee remains in intensive care after being hit by a car on 4th and Bryant the day after Christmas. However, he's in stable condition after undergoing two spinal surgeries, and in a statement (.pdf) released by the school district, he says he intends to stay on the board and resume attending meetings as soon as he's physically able.

According to the police report, Yee was hit in the crosswalk and with a green light in his favor; an out-of-town driver (from West Hollywood and in a rental) hit Yee while turning left off 4th Street. The driver told the police he didn't see anyone in the crosswalk before making the turn, and was issued a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian.

Norman Yee is like the sometimes-contentious school board's Sandra Day O'Connor, bridging the gap between the progressives and the moderates. He often serves as a swing vote on difficult issues, and by all reports, is extremely well-liked by everyone. We here at SFist wish you a speedy recovery, President Yee!
