Just in time for the kiddies as they go back to school, the Monterey Bay Aquarium (or the Sausalito Aquarium for you Trekkies out there and yes, that's our second Star Trek IV reference this week), unveiled their latest catch, a real live Great White Shark. The Shark is 104 pounds and 5 feet 8 inches long and is on the younger side of life. It was caught somewhere off the Santa Monica Bay and was introduced to the Aquarium’s "Outer Bay" exhibit where it roams freely and wonders where all the yummy surfers went.
The shark is said to be doing well. No word on all the other denizens of the Outer Bay exhibit who are probably a little less than thrilled. A spokesperson for the Aquarium said that it's great to have the shark there because it's a great way to show the importance of the oceanic eco- system... blah... blah... blah...scientific mumbo jumbo for "because it's pretty f------- cool."
This is the second time the aquarium has had a Great White as it had a female shark there during the winter of '04. The shark was eventually sent back to the ocean because it "...killed two soup fin sharks and showed increasingly aggressive behavior." In other words, acted like a shark.
We would totally be all over this except for the fact that we saw Jaws III as a kid and the shark in the movie went nuts at an amusement park and we're way too scared to go see it. But, we'll totally watch the web cam as it's a pretty f------ cool thing to do.
