The story of the ex-spouses running against each other for city council in Daly City re-ups the sordid factor as Frank Berlanga, whose ex-wife Leah accused him of running for the seat in violation of the restraining order she's obtained against him for his alleged domestic violence, responds (through proxies) in the press.
As you may remember, Leah called a press conference earlier this week about her marital history with Frank and his alleged acts of domestic violence, when Frank was in jail for violating his probation. Well, Frank appeared in court yesterday, claimed he didn't do anything wrong, and was planning on posting the $7500 bond required to get out of jail. Frank declined to be interviewed, but his children from his first marriage (not to Leah) say that their father had been wanting to run for the city council for a decade, and that Leah had Frank arrested to thwart his chances. "They both talked about running for years, and then Dad filed to run and she called the police," said one of the daughters.
Meanwhile, the plot thickens -- Matier and Ross yesterday found out that the people who put up the money for Frank to run? Family members of Leah's main opponent in the city council race.
