A lot going on:
*A pedestrian by the old US Mint on Fifth and Mission was hit and killed by a 26 Valencia bus shortly after 9 a.m. today. Footage from the scene here. The police are looking into whether the pedestrian deliberately placed himself behind the rear wheels of the bus, and the driver of the bus has been put on administrative leave.
*Two lanes of 101 S near Mountain View were closed down after four cars collided and started a vehicle fire around 8 a.m. this morning. No one was injured, but the "flames shooting from the vehicle hood" sound very dramatic. Making matters worse, a truck stalled on the San Mateo bridge around that time too.
*A senior citizen attempting suicide by lying on the train tracks was hit but not killed by a VTA train in San Jose near the Oakridge Mall at around 6 a.m. this morning. The man survived, but suffered severe head injuries.
*And yesterday, a 13 year old boy was accidentally struck and killed by a Caltrain, near the Broadway stop. He and his friends would often cross the tracks around there, but they weren't paying attention this time (possibly because a number of them were listening to music at the time) and misjudged the speed of the oncoming train. His family is lobbying for better fencing to be installed along the tracks; the conductor said he blew his horn but no one noticed.
How's your commute been today? (We feel vaguely guilty that ours was relatively uneventful.)
