According to the State Department, one of the groups in question, the International Lesbian & Gay Association, was once associated with NAMBLA. Years ago. And expelled them. And haven't been associated with since. As for the other group, the Danish National Association for Gays & Lesbians, they have no record of being affiliated with anyone, but you have to watch out for those Danes what with their crazy cartoonists.
The statement was issued after drawing criticism from Barney Frank and gay rights groups. Frank had written a letter to Secretary of State Condeleeza Rice (who we might add is single, never married, has no kids and likes football--oh, you know the rumors are out there) as well as the Human Rights Campaign. Joining the U.S. in voting against the inclusion of the groups are such noted "democracy lovers" as Sudan, China, Iran and Zimbabwe. Let's see here-- one country currently murdering thousands of people, another country that's murdered millions of people, a country that would probably like to murder a million people, and Zimbabwe. Good company, there.
We would like to add that so far, the United States is still giving money to an organization that actually has had serious cases of pedophilia on it's watch-- the Catholic Church.
