Well, thanks to intrepid blogger (and friend of SFist) Michael, the chain link fence is finally down. Michael gets huge props for actually Getting Something Done -- a rarity in this town -- and for meticulously documenting his quest, complete with pictures of the friends who helped him out, and the unhelpful foes lurking within SF's creepy beaurocracy. The best excuses he seems to have gotten for the fence was to prevent grafitti (even though the artist intended for the thing to be marked-up by passers-by) and to protect sod. Fortunately, the sod still seems to be getting along just fine, even without its massive protective cage. What a relief! Be sure to visit the lovely new green sometime before the sculture comes down, and to thank Michael for devoting his Burning-Mannish zest to stuff that's more productive than art cars and body glitter.
