Jennifer over at Life Begins at Thirty spent last week blogging about food. Of course, lots of people do that, including SFist. But what made this exceptional is that it was as part of a series on trying to eat locally and sustainably, both in and out of the house. Of course, it can't always be done. As Jennifer points out on day six, "[A] girl's gotta have her nachos every once in a while, right?"

She wrapped up with some analysis (and a handy list of links to each post in the series):

Overall, I would say that in my everyday life, the good guys win at the end of the day. Every day is sprinkled with some good things and a couple bad things. But each day that I wrote, I would say that the good guys won out over the bad guys.

The restaurant eating is a frustrating thing. Even in a town like San Francisco, your best bet for eating locally and sustainably is to cook for yourself. Of course there are many exceptions, but they are not every day exceptions.

We had a blast reading it every day, and thinking about the larger issues of sustainable agriculture, the environment, personal health and, well, fresh, tasty food! One of the reasons we were a bit late, is because we caught Alice Waters on KQED radio last night speaking at the Commonwealth Club (transcript) and just thought that Jennifer's effort was a great example of really being thoughtful about what you eat.
