Yeah, we know. You are soooooo busy and sooooo important. Shut up. Get out of the house and do something to make the world a better place. SFist Cares has had just about enough this week.
Don't know where to start?
Have we got a website for you: Volunteer Match. Just what it sounds like - you enter some search criteria like your location, your interests and potential dates, and out pops a list of volunteer positions and opportunities. It could almost not be easier (only if you didn't have to even get out of bed).
God, SFist wishes we were pregnant. Oh, wait, we are! Obviously, there is something for everyone.
The website also has lots of other information about volunteerism. And we found some interesting government statistics on volunteerism rates. Women are more likely to volunteer than men and the rates of volunteerism among those in their twenties are the lowest among all age groups. Overall 64.5 million people did at least one day of volunteer work last year (Sept 2003-Sept 2004), contributing a median of 52 hours of time. Awesome!
What have you done for us lately?
