Ahhh...Puppetoons.

Well, fear not egg hunters. Easter is not without its own share of spooky animated specials, and thanks to the folks at the Family Channel, you can catch two this Sunday! At 2:30 p. m. learn about "The First Easter Rabbit" in this traditionally animated special that first aired in 1976. Sorry, no scary puppetoon bunnies in this one. For that, tune in a half-hour later for 1977's "The Easter Bunny Is Comin' to Town." Fred Astaire reprises his "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" role as the voice of a know-it-all mailman (pre-Cliff Clavin!) with the scoop on the origins of the Easter Bunny. And that bunny's name? Why, it's Sunny! Sunny Bunny. Of course. We can't really explain our fascination with Rankin/Bass puppetoon productions, but we think it has something to do with the fact that those little animated animals and Fred Astaires were actual, existed-in-the-real-world creations, and not just code in a computer. There's something about the irony of a creation that's actually real but doesn't look real, and a creation that isn't real but looks a lot realer than those real creations, that we just love.

We put down the bong, and look to "The Office" with hope and dread, after the jump.
