For those of you who take one look at a Craigslist posting for a room in the Bayview and think to yourself, "It's too dangerous," it may be time to reevaluate. Fact is, among the 34 American cities with more than half a million people, San Francisco is the ninth safest according to Morgan Quitno Corp's annual "City Crime Rankings" to be published in December. The rankings are based on the rates of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft. If you're still nervous (some of the stuff in the Blotter is pretty scary), you can move down 101 to San Jose, which came in first.
Our poor friends at DCist came in at the other end of the scale - 2nd most dangerous. Good excuse to stay home and blog. Detroit was named most dangerous, although we hear Auburn Hills is really the area to avoid.
