While we may not be big fans of golf, we are, however, big fans of the Chronicle's golf columnist Brian Murphy. Well, more like big fans of his Weekend Water Cooler column that runs every Monday on ESPN.com's Page 2. He loves the Giants, international football, and drinking Guinness at the Haights' own Martin Mack's- three things that we are definitely down with. Which is why we were saddened to read that yet another Chronicle sports columnist has left the paper. As we read in the weekend edition of the Sporting Green, Murphy has left the paper to be a sports talk radio personality on KNBR. His last column appeared this Sunday.

While we have no idea whether Murphy's move was planned or not, we have to say it does appear slightly suspicious considering how many sports columnists have "left" the paper over the past couple of months. We'll find out how serious the Chronicle is about having a golf columnist if they hire somebody to replace him. Our guess is that it will be the Chronicle's new favorite columnist these days- "wire report" (probably to save more money to run those great ads featuring the former Mr. Sharon Stone discussing what a world class paper the Chronicle is).

In other laid-off columnists news, former Dog Bites It Girl, Laurel Wellman has now officially been disappeared. While she hasn't written a story in months, her byline was still up on SFGate. Bored at work the other day(how else do you think we're able to post such wonderful posts all day?), we checked and noticed that Laurel is now gone from the site. Where? We have no idea. We do, however, have a suggestion- since the Dog Bites column hasn't been the same since she left, maybe Mr. Mecklin should think about bringing her back. What ever did happen to Nestor Makhno and the Mission Yuppie Eradication Project anyways?
