Sorry for the lateness of our postings -- we're all out voting today. And we'd love to hear your balloting stories! Any funny antics involving ranked-choice voting? See any precinct hookups while waiting in line? Any babies wearing Kerry-Edwards shirts thrown out of the booth? Any young cherubs refusing to accept Halloween candy from Republicans?
This correspondent voted at around 8:15 a.m., where there was a small line outside the polling place, but the delays seemed mostly due to the extreme length of the San Francisco ballot this time (3 pages, front and back). After we finished, the oppressively-cheerful precinct captain said that they had already had as many people vote in the last 90 minutes as they usually got by noon in other elections, and that about a third of the precinct had already voted by absentee. And, as we were leaving, someone came in and said, "I forgot to register, can I do that now?" The precinct captain said, "Oh, sorry, no, you had to register to vote a few weeks ago -- but if you want, we can give you a ballot and you can cast a pretend vote, just for yourself!" ....okay, we're not going to ask any questions. We're just hoping they don't find any more ballot boxes floating in the Bay again.
