SFist is not above shilling for our friends - Phil Bronstein does it, why shouldn't we? So we'd like to invite you to visit tonight or tomorrow's performance of , written and directed by Cristal Chanelle Truscott for the ProgressTheater performance group. ProgressTheater is an ensemble devoted to theater that will resonate with the hip-hop generation, and hope to instill a deeper appreciation for theater within the Black community.
'Membuh was originally performed at PS 122 in New York City, and is being presented here by Youth Speaks as part of the fourth annual Living Word Festival at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The show combines elements of music, spoken word and dance performance into a theater experiment which explores what it means to be young and black in America today. The show runs for just these two nights at the ODC Theater, but other Living Word Festival events will continue on through Sunday, culminating in an after-party at Yerba Buena Center. You can purchase tickets through TicketWeb and post your review at Theatre Bay Area.
