In all the (justified) glory for Barry Bonds hitting the big seven-oh-oh, there's some sad stories as well. A Giants fan was killed after the Giants beat the Padres on Friday night, in what sounds like a completely pointless altercation. From reports, it sounds like Timothy Griffith was walking with some friends through the parking lot back to their car when he brushed up against the mirror of someone else's car. Three angry men got out of the bumped car, a fight broke out, and Griffith was stabbed to death. A friend trying to help Griffith was beaten unconscious and left with a broken hand and bruised ribs.
The story just gets worse -- Griffith, 21, had just gotten out of a drug rehab program the week before. To celebrate, he had gone to the game with four of his friends to cheer Barry on from the standing room seats. A lifelong Giants fan, Griffith was wearing a "Pitch to Barry" shirt when he was killed. Griffith, pictured above with his long-term girlfriend, will be buried in a Giants "700" souvenir t-shirt and a Giants cap.
Sketches and a description of the assailants have been released. The police describe three men in their 20s driving a white four-door sedan and with possible gang affiliations. This is the first assault in the Giants parking lot since the ballpark opened.
