Those of you longing to start airbrushing flames on or supergluing action figures to the side of your car, it's your weekend! Starting today through Sunday, it's Art Car Fest 2004! Intended to celebrate "the quintessential public art of our times," art cars will be driving all over the Bay Area to show off their style, flash, and pizazz.
If you look out your window right now, you might be able to catch today's kickoff event, the Amoeba-to-Amoeba caravan, where the featured art cars are driving from the Berkeley Amoeba to the San Francisco one. (It's gonna be hard to park in the Haight this evening). Tomorrow, the cars are touring children's hospitals, Saturday there's the free art car festival at the San Jose Museum of Art with music, performances, and the art car fashion show. And finally on Sunday, the Art Cars will be featured at the How Berkeley Can You Be parade. Everyone else, watch out for flying pieces of fake fur blowing into the road. (SFist is sure real art car artists have some solution to this issue, but as a mere art car admirer, we've been fascinated as to what it might be. Enlighten us in the comments, art car artisans!)
