For those of you who thought the lamp posts, telephone poles, and coffee shop windows in town look too empty, fret no more! It's almost time for Supervisor elections!

The big news is, of course, that the current president of the Board, Matt Gonzalez, is not running for reelection. He says he wants to work at 'a private law firm' (read: make money). SFist can't begrudge him that - he probably just wants to buy a house, like every single other person in the City. Rushing in to fill the vacuum of leadership in District 5, thirty-one eager Haight area residents have announced their intentions to run for the seat. This includes Matt Gonzalez's campaign manager Ross Mirkarimi, a co-founder of the California Green Party, Andrew Sullivan, a founder of Rescue MUNI, Nick Waugh, who's already been endorsed by the Howard Deaniac spinoff Democracy for America, Phoenix Streets, who was featured in the documentary Presumed Guilty, about the San Francisco Public Defender's office, and 27 other candidates. Those of you in District 5 should expect a large number of pre-recorded phone calls in the upcoming months.
