Six people complained of minor injuries Thursday afternoon, after the driver of an SUV struck a Muni bus traveling through the Mission District.

According to San Francisco Fire Department spokesperson Jonathan Baxter, the collision was reported at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, at the intersection of 16th and Folsom Streets.

The bus, identified by the Chron as a 22 Fillmore, was "rear ended" by a driver, reports multiple news organizations, but Mission Local characterizes it slightly differently. According to their report on the collision, "The driver of an SUV said he 'lightly tapped' the bus as he was making a right turn at the intersection and the bus driver stopped."

Though Baxter confirms that six people said they were injured, he said all the complains were "very minor" and no one was hospitalized following the crash/tap. One person was treated and release at the scene, per the Chron. Mission Local reports that "the driver of the bus said that five said they had been hurt but then told him they 'didn’t feel anything.'"

According to Mission Local, neither the SUV nor the bus were damaged in the collision. San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency spokesperson Paul Rose confirms the latter assertion, saying the the bus "did not sustain disabling damage."

5 Year Old Struck By Driver In Stonestown Parking Lot, Critical Injuries Reported

A mother and her 5-year-old daughter were struck by an elderly driver in the Stonestown Galleria parking lot Wednesday, leaving the child with critical injuries, a San Francisco Police Department spok...

SF News

collision

pedestrian safety

stonestown

SUV

Eve Batey

A mother and her 5-year-old daughter were struck by an elderly driver in the Stonestown Galleria parking lot Wednesday, leaving the child with critical injuries, a San Francisco Police Department spokesperson says.

According to the SFPD, the 45-year-old woman and her daughter were in a crosswalk in front the Stonestown City Sports Club at 12:23 Wednesday afternoon when a Toyota RAV-4 SUV driven by an 86-year-old woman failed to stop at the intersection and struck them both. The mother was left with serious injuries, and the child with life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.

The Ex reports that the driver stopped at the crash and cooperated with investigators, and that "it's unknown why the driver didn't stop for the pedestrians." Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor, an SFPD spokesperson said.

KTVU reports that the driver was eventually taken from the scene "to the hospital for an undisclosed ailment." The Golden Gate Xpress says, however, that the driver "experienced chest pains after the accident, but declined medical treatment." A call to SFPD to figure out which of these reports is accurate was not returned at publication time.

According to the Chron, a police spokesperson said "that it was too early to determine fault and that no citations had been written."

According to Cornelius Jones, a witness who spoke with the Golden Gate Xpress, the driver didn't get out of her car after the collision, but just sat inside it, apparently waiting for police to arrive.

“She just pulled to the side and sat there...The police went over there and started talking to her.”

It seems like something out of a lesser USA Network drama — a dramatic heist at a prominent bank's history museum, with masked suspects, a gunpoint confrontation, and gold nuggets at stake. But this wasn't showing on a mid-band cable channel! It was actually happening on our streets early this morning.

It was 2:27 a.m., San Francisco Police Department spokesperson Officer Grace Gatpandan says, when a dark-colored Chevy Suburban SUV (later discovered to have been stolen from a San Bruno resident, NBC Bay Area reports) smashed through the revolving doors of the Wells Fargo History Museum at 420 Montgomery Street.

Gatpandan says there were three suspects in the Suburban, all wearing ski masks. Holding the security guard at gunpoint, the suspects took gold nuggets from a display case, then fled in a four-door sedan, leaving the Suburban behind.

According to ABC7, the sedan in which the suspects fled was a white Ford Taurus, last seen headed eastbound across the Bay Bridge. Gatpandan could not confirm those details at publication time.

The museum, which is located at the site where Wells Fargo first opened for business in 1852, does not house a bank branch. On display are artifacts dating back to the bank's Gold Rush years, including an historic Wells Fargo stagecoach and, until today, several cases of gold nuggets from historic mining operations from that time.

Wells Fargo spokesperson Ruben Pulido said that the company is "grateful no team member was harmed. Additionally, the historic stagecoaches on site were not damaged."

Pulido says that Wells Fargo is cooperating with the SFPD investigation of the case, and that they are "disturbed" that the robbery occurred.

This is the second such smash-and-grab to hit San Francisco in recent days, as just last Monday, several suspects used a U-Haul to smash into a Fisherman's Wharf Patagonia store, stealing racks of clothing. Those suspects have yet to be found, and Gatpandan could not comment on if police believe the two crimes were related.

A pedestrian was seriously injured this morning, after being struck by a sports utility vehicle while crossing a street near San Francisco's infamous Jefferson Airplane Mansion, the San Francisco Police Department says.

According to SFPD spokesperson Officer Gordon Shyy, the pedestrian was crossing the street at around 8:20 this morning near near Fulton Street and Willard North Street when the driver of a blue SUV struck him or her.

(The northwest corner of Fulton Street and Willard North Street is also known as the location of "Jefferson Airplane Mansion," a Colonial Revival style home at 2400 Fulton Street that was the home of the rock group Jefferson Airplane in the late 1960s.)

The pedestrian, whom the Chron notes may or may not have been in a crosswalk, suffered a "serious head injury," and was transported to San Francisco General Hospital, Shyy says.

While crossing the freeway, though, a driver in an Infiniti SUV struck and killed the man.

The incident happened early Sunday morning round 2:40 a.m. when, according to The Chronicle, a "black Honda driven by a suspected drunk driver hit the rear side of a Toyota SUV. Both vehicles spun out of control, and the Toyota hit the center divider, injuring two people."

The Good Samaritan, a Redwood City man, saw the crash, parked his Jeep on the righthand shoulder, and attempted to cross the lanes. This was when he was fatally hit by the SUV.

At least one person was arrested in connection with the initial crash.

"It looked pretty bad and right now the cops are looking at all the stuff that's all over the ground."

A 62-year-old man was walking east across Columbus Street "outside of a crosswalk" when he was hit by a white SUV heading north on Columbus. The injured pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. The suspect evaded the scene just after hitting the man.

According to SF Appeal, "The vehicle is described as a late-90s model Chevrolet SUV, possibly a Suburban, with tinted windows and a California license plate with the last two numbers '24.' " And the white SUV "may have front-end damage to it caused by the collision."

Drunk drivers. They're even worse than teenagers.
