We here at SFist are flummoxed -- flummoxed! -- by the idea that anything drug-related goes down on Stillman Street. See, after a suspected robbery call and a subsequent investigation on February 12, police uncovered a marijuana grow house on the 100 block of Stillman. The warehouse sits just under the I-80 overpass between Harrison and Folsom.

Four people were arrested in connection with the mini pot plantation.

In addition to finding over 500 plants and processed bags of ganja, police also discovered guns and ammunition in the warehouse.

Best of all, the suspects, in an attempt to keep neighbors quiet, used Starbucks gift card as bribery. According to SF Examiner, "Neighbors had a hunch that pot was being grown in the unit. The apparent head of the operation reportedly offered them Starbucks cards, presumably to keep anyone from mentioning the marijuana stench to police, one neighbor said Monday."

SFist, however, spoke with one area neighbor who wondered, "Where the fuck is my gift card?"

Pizza Delivery Man Pistol Whipped, Robbed in SOMA

A little before 8:30 p.m. last night, an Amici's pizza delivery man was pistol-whipped and robbed at <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=XUx&e...

SF News

crime

mugging

pistol whipping

soma

stillman

Brock Keeling

A little before 8:30 p.m. last night, an Amici's pizza delivery man was pistol-whipped and robbed at Third and Stillman streets. Police officers who arrived on the scene found the man lying unconscious on Stillman, his undelivered pizzas at his side. The victim, whose skull "might have been shattered," reported an officer on the scene, was whisked away to a nearby hospital. However, according to one of his coworkers, "He's doing fine now."

No arrests have been made.

This makes the third type of pistol whipping-related assault to occur on the small street located just under the overpass. In January, two men were whipped and robbed, and a woman was pistol whipped, later dying as a result of her injuries. Peter Azadian, who had been homeless and had been living under a door frame in the area, was beaten by four men early in the morning around 3 am. All four suspects fled in a sport utility vehicle, according to police. No arrests have been made.

SATURDAY / SOMA: Speaking of Stillman, a shooting occurred outside an apartment building at Stillman and Third Streets. It allegedly had something to do with angry revelers who spilled from a late-night party at 93 Stillman. Someone fired around 10 or so shots. Fortunately, no one was injured. No arrests have been made.

While waiting with his 26-year-old girlfriend, police claim a suspect drove up to the couple, exited his vehicle, and then "approached the victims and started shooting," killing the Oakland man and wounding his female companion. The suspect then "returned to the vehicle and fled the area," driving off in a "drove off in a gold-colored car." Cops have neither suspects nor description of the assailant(s).

-- Speaking of SOMA nightlife, crime magnet Stillman Street set the stage for two pistol whippings crime muggings a little before 11:30 p.m. With each incident occurring within about twenty minutes from each other on the exact same spot, according the neighbors, two people were approached from behind, whacked on the noodle with a gun, and robbed of their personal belongings. The police showed up later in the night and flashed their siren lights menacingly.

This happened a block away from 715 Harrison (i.e., City Nights). The Stillman strip between Second and Fourth streets -- a notoriously and continuously police-free zone -- has seen shootings, neo-Nazi graffiti, near sexual assaults, and countless violent beatings just over the last six months. "Help me," Stillman Street replied when questioned on its recent spat criminal mischief.

-- Fortunately, SFPD is on the scene when it comes to unruly homeless folks brandishing cutlery. On Sunday afternoon at around 3:20 p.m. a "panhandler who was shot by a San Francisco police officer after lunging at police with a knife" later died at San Francisco General Hospital. Sending police on a chasing starting from the median strip of Van Ness Avenue at Greenwich Street to Polk Street, three -- yes, -- cops caught up with the man who then pulled a knife on them, which resulted in his shooting death.
three

Recurring Neo-Nazi Flair on Stillman Street Disappears.
The culprit of this week's spray paint melee was possibly uncovered and hotly debated by our fantastic sleuth readers. While we won't point any fingers as to who decorated Stillman Street with eye-popping Neo-Nazi flair, and the Vacaville-based MySpace page supposedly harboring the young hate monger's identity has since been set "private," we invite you to read all about it here. It full of speculative fun and finger pointing!

Our sources tell us that authorities (scary, intimidating, bugging-your-phone-and-reading-your-emails type of authorities) are on the case now, and we couldn't be happier. We don't like others moving in on our hate-spreading turf. Anyway, thanks, SFPD and SFist readers.
We came across these, um, public art pieces while walking down Stillman Street. Shot earlier this evening, the paint was fresh yet gooey. If we had to guess, one to two days old, maybe? What these images lack in whimsical mischief--like last November's bout of graffiti that marred a Los Gatos church, which somehow made Bay Area headlines--they make up for in fear and fright.

Anyway, we're curious: what exactly does "Ø.F.C." mean? According to neighbors in the area, this acronym, along with the classic swastika, have made appearances on the stairwell walls of residential apartment buildings on Stillman Street over the last six months, but they're also stumped as to the meaning of "Ø.F.C."

But wait, there's more: for even more Neo-Naziesque hate signage in SOMA, including a misguided tribute to Vacaville, follow the jump.

SFist Blotter

-- Really? At Union Square? Where we sit and enjoy our Border's-bought cream cheese stuffed pretzel? Let's back up a bit: according to SF Crime, a 16-year-old boy was shot while kicking it in the Union Square area at around 9:30 p.m. on Friday night. "A bullet struck the teen in the ankle and he was transported to San Francisco General Hospital in stable condition" just 30 minutes after SFPD responded to yet another shooting at Eighth and Market Streets.

No arrests have been made in either shooting.

-- Less than one week after a triple shooting left three people in critical condition at the intersection of Stillman and Third streets, a brutal fight broke out in the same area after residents of a nearby building reportedly dropped water balloons on passers-by in the wee hours of Saturday morning. At around 3 a.m., a balloon-hit one angry pedestrian who then retaliated by firing two shots in the air. After that, the alleged shooter and his pals managed to subdue one of the mischief makers in the building, and then beat the living crap out of him.

Why isn't this intersection -- located near arena venue City Nights -- better patrolled? Well, according to authorities, SFPD is spread so thin right now that things are going to get worse before they get better. Great. And with SF Crime and FCJ being two of the few outlets that let people know about SF-based shootings, we imagine violent crimes will become more frequent during the next few months.

However, after talking to SFPD, all victims are listed "critical or serious" condition as of noontime today. We had falsely reported otherwise. Oops.)

A little after 1 a.m. this morning, three people were shot near the intersection of Stillman and Third streets.

Right after the dozen or so gunshots jostled the troubled street, residents in neighboring buildings claim that they saw "two men with guns" get into a (burgundy?) Nissan Sentra-looking car after the shooting subsided, which then sped west down Stillman.

What they (we) also saw was a man lying on the ground. It appeared that he was bleeding from his chest, but also moving as he was picked up and carried away to San Francisco General Hospital by EMT along with the other two victims. No word yet as the their identities or conditions.

While mildly charming during the day, this eastern SOMA neighborhood strip -- located just under the I-80 overpass and a block away from infamous nightspot, City Nights -- is notoriously plagued with aggressive mischief during the night.

(What was a precocious orphanage was violently burned to the ground to make space for a much-anticipated Bed, Bad, and Beyond! No, not really. We kid you.) A new overpass is going up in place of the old one, and we’re dying to know what it will look like. (Rumor has it that underneath the new overpass will be a lot for AC Transit buses to park, which is better than the drug outlets that resided there before.) The one that was demolished last year was pretty nifty as far as overpasses go -- pretty arches and all.

Any ideas as to how it will turn out? And will be built whisper-quietly? (Sigh.)

And surely it will be put up lightening-quick just like this year's seamless McArthur Maze reconstructive surgery, right? Right!?
